Scott Miller

Scott Miller is a physical therapist and a Board Certified Sports Clinical Specialist.  A native to the area, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1994 and a Master of Science in 1998 from Grand Valley State University.  Scott is also a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist, and a Certified Golf fitness Instructor through the Titleist Performance Institute.  Scott is the Director of Clinical Operations of Agility Physical Therapy & Sports Performance and business partner in both of the physical therapy clinics in the greater Kalamazoo Area.

Scott has been published in several orthopaedic text books and lectures at the local, regional and national levels on various topics in physical therapy.  He has continued to pursue advanced education and training in foot & ankle biomechanics, manual therapy and the McKenzie method for evaluation and treatment of spinal disorders. 

Scott is an active member in the American Physical Therapy Association, Sports Physical Therapy Section, and a former Board of Trustee member and secretary for the Institute of Education and Research of the Michigan Physical Therapy Association.   He currently is a Team Member on the Public Relations Committee and a member of the Knee, Shoulder and Running Special Interest Groups (SIG) of the Sports Physical Therapy Section.  Scott is part of the teaching faculty for Advances in Clinical Education and the North American Sports Medicine Institute.

Scott is an avid golfer, runner, cyclist and triathlete at various distances, including marathon and Ironman triathlon finisher.  He is also the co-founder of the Golf Performance Academy of Southwest Michigan.

 

Christina Woytal
Christina Woytal, PT, DPT, CSCS

Doctorate of Physical Therapy

Christina Woytal is a physical therapist and joined the staff at Agility Physical Therapy & Sports Performance in November 2010.  She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Central Michigan University in 1996.  Christina went on to complete her graduate studies at Central Michigan in 1999.  She graduated from the University of Kansas in April 2011 with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy.  She is also a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA. 

Christina has spent her entire career specializing in outpatient orthopedics and sports, specializing in post-operative care and manual therapy.  She has advanced training in ankle and foot biomechanics and utilizes orthotic management for various lower extremity over-use injuries.

Christina is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association, Michigan Physical Therapy Association, and the Western District.  She has been a clinical instructor for a number of physical therapy students during her career.

 

Teri Abnet
Teri Richman, BS, PTA
Physical Therapist Assistant

Teri is a physical therapist assistant and joined the staff at Agility Physical Therapy & Sports Performance in November 2007.  A native to Waterford, Michigan, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science 2001 from Western Michigan University.  After graduation, she worked for a local physical therapy clinic and started a Wellness Program, as well as worked as a personal fitness trainer at West Hills Athletic Club.  Teri went on to graduate from Kellogg Community College’s Physical Therapist Assistant Program in 2004.

Teri has pursued advanced training in extremity and spinal techniques through Great Lakes Seminars, as well as training in Pilates techniques.  In 2009, Teri was named Outstanding Clinical Instructor from Kellogg Community College for her recognition and dedication to working with PTA students.  In 2010, she was also recognized by the American Physical Therapy Association for having Advanced Proficiency in Musculoskeletal Conditions.  Teri has also lectured on injury prevention to local runners and triathletes and has a published article in PT Magazine.

Teri is an avid runner and triathlete competing in several half marathon distance events.

 

Adam Swain

Adam Swain is a physical therapist and joined the staff at Agility Physical Therapy & Sports Performance in February 2010.  He is a National Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist through the American Physical Therapy Association and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists. Adam became a McKenzie Certified Therapist in January 2012.

Adam graduated in 1986 from Northeastern University, in Boston, MA, with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy.  He became a Certified Athletic Trainer in 1992, after completing course work and internship hours at Northwestern University and Purdue University.  Adam also received his certification as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist in 1992.  In 1994, he completed a two year Manual Therapy and Medical Exercise Therapy Residency program with Bjorn Svendsen Dsc,PT. in Lansing MI.

Adam has lectured on several topics in orthopedic and sports medicine rehabilitation , and has been published as well.  He is currently working on certification in the McKenzie method for treatment of spinal and extremity disorders.  Adam has extensive training in manual therapy and Osteopathic techniques for management of spine and extremity dysfunctions.  He also specializes in ankle/foot biomechanics and was a member of the teaching faculty for the “When the Feet Hit the Ground…” course through the American Physical Rehabilitation Network (APRN).

He is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association, Orthopedic and Sports Sections, and the Michigan Physical Therapy Association.  He is also a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association.

 

Jessica Brechin Jessica Brechin, PT, MS
Senior Physical Therapist

Jessica Brechin is a physical therapist and joined the staff at Agility Physical Therapy & Sports Performance in June 2011.  She graduated in 2002 from Grand Valley State University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and in 2004 with a Master of Science in Physical Therapy. 

Prior to starting at Agility in Kalamazoo, Jessica was a Group Leader for Advent Rehab and the Site Leader of GRSportsCenter in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  She was responsible for the continued development of the sports medicine program, including lectures, workshops and various injury prevention programs.  Jessica has continued to pursue advanced education and training in foot & ankle biomechanics, manual therapy and Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA).   She helped develop the aquatic physical therapy program at GRSportsCenter.

Jessica was an adjunct instructor in the Doctorate Physical Therapy program at Grand Valley State University in 2011.  She is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association and Sports Physical Therapy Section.  Jessica is an avid runner, triathlete and golfer.

 

Nanci Ouellette Nanci Ouellette, BFA, PTA
Physical Therapist Assistant

Nanci is a physical therapist assistant and joined the staff at Agility Physical Therapy & Sports Performance in February 2010.  She graduated from Davenport University in 1999 with an Associates in Allied Health in the Physical Therapy Assistant program.  She also received her Bachelor degree of Fine Arts in Dance from the Boston Conservatory of Music  in 1986.  She was a professional dancer in New York City and around the world for 11 years.  Some of her credits include The Radio City Music Hall Christmas Show, the national tours of the “Music Man” and  “42nd Street”.

Nanci has practiced in outpatient orthopaedics and has helped to develop the Performing Arts and Dance Medicine program.  She specializes in manual therapy techniques and has been instructing a Pilates based method for several years.  She is currently working towards her Authentic Pilates Certification.

 

Shannon Johnson Shannon Johnson, PTA
Physical Therapist Assistant

Shannon Johnson is a physical therapist assistant and joined the staff at Agility Physical Therapy & Sports Performance in June 2011.  She graduated from Kellogg Community College in 1991 with an Associates in Allied Health in the Physical Therapy Assistant program. 

Prior to starting at Agility Physical Therapy, she has practiced in outpatient orthopaedics for over 20 years.  She developed the aquatic physical therapy program at HealthTRAC in Three Rivers, Michigan.  Shannon has continued to pursue advanced education in manual therapy through Great Lakes Seminars, aquatics, Strain/Counter-Strain techniques.

She has done several lectures/in-services to area professionals on various topics in manual therapy and aquatics.  Shannon is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association, Michigan Physical Therapy Association, and the Aquatics Physical Therapy Section of the APTA.

She is an avid distance runner, golfer and yoga.

 

Char Swain Char Swain, PT
Physical Therapist / Aquatics

Char is a physical therapist and joined the staff at Agility Physical Therapy in February 2010.  She graduated with her Bachelors of Science in Physical Therapy from Marquette University in 1985.  From there, Char worked in orthopedic and neurological rehab at the Rehab Institute of Chicago, specializing in chronic pain, neurological rehab, and aquatic therapy. 

In 1990, Char moved to Kokomo, Indiana and helped open a Rehabilitation Hospital where she was the Rehab Supervisor.  From 1993-1996, She was the supervisor of the In-patient and Out-patient departments at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan. 

Char currently works part-time at the Cheff Therapeutic Riding Center specializing in hippotherapy (treatment with the help of horses).  She works with clients suffering from various neurological deficits related to cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injuries, multiple sclerosis, cerebrovascular accidents, developmental delays, sensory integration disorders or spina bifida to improve the emotional and physical well-being of individuals through the therapeutic use of horses.

Char has helped to develop a comprehensive aquatic therapy program at Agility to assist in a patients functional return to a land-based program for various musculoskeletal conditions, including chronic pain, post-operative and sports-specific injuries.

 

Jill  Ruterbusch Jill Ruterbusch, PT
Physical Therapist / Aquatics

Jill is a physical therapist and joined the staff at Agility Physical Therapy in February 2010.  She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from Boston University in 1985.  Jill has over 20 years experience in both in-patient and out-patient settings, specializing in orthopedic, neurological, and aquatic rehabilitation.  Her experience ranges across the lifespan, working with the pediatric to geriatric client.

Jill currently works part-time for Agility at both the Kalamazoo and Portage offices.  She works with patients as part of their land-based or aquatic therapy program.  She enjoys the summers off with her family as they travel up north.

Chanel Kerschbaum

Chanel has worked as a dietitian since 2003, helping people lose weight and developing exercise programs tailored to their lifestyles. She started her business Health n Motion, LLC in 2009 and has been a Sports Nutrition Consultant on-site at Agility Physical Therapy.  She is a certified personal trainer and has been certified in adult weight management by the Commission on Dietetic Registration. All of these provide a unique blend of skill sets to help clients achieve their goals. Chanel has always had a passion for health and exercise, but as her interest in endurance events grew, so did her passion for sports nutrition. Using her recommendations to help her endurance and fitness level, as well as balancing her own health conditions with exercise, she knows firsthand how healthy, balanced eating can change your life!

Chanel attended Western Michigan University for her undergraduate degree and completed her dietetic internship from Michigan State University. She is an active member of the American Dietetic Association and the Sports, Cardiovascular and Wellness Nutrition practice group. She has held several leadership positions with Dietitians of West Michigan; the largest affiliate group in West Michigan.

Chanel has been featured in the Grand Rapids Free Press and the VegE-News. She has participated in multiple triathlons, marathon, half marathon, The Grand Rapids 5/3 River Bank Run and is an outdoor enthusiast.

 

Eddie O'Connor

Eddie O’Connor, Ph.D.

Clinical Sport Psychologist – Excellence Performance Center, Division of Mary Free Bed Hospital

Eddie O’Connor is the Clinical Sport Psychologist and Director & Chief Psychologist at the Excellence Performance Center, Division of Mary Fee Bed Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He did his doctoral work in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago.

Dr. O’Connor is a Certified Consultant with the Association for the Advancement of Applied Sport Psychology. He is a professional member of the U.S. Olympic Committee Sport Psychology Registry, Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP), the American Psychological Association, Division of Sport & Exercise Psychology; and Midwest Pain Society.

Dr. O’Connor has continued to remain as a consultant for Agility Physical Therapy & Sports Performance. He has done numerous presentations and publications in the areas of pain and injury, rehabilitation, and performance enhancement. He has advanced training in working with athletes, coaches and teams across a wide variety of sports and performance levels (youth through professional) to overcome slumps, excel following injury, and develop mental toughness.
