Scott Miller
Scott Miller, PT, MS, SCS, CSCS, TPI-CGFI

Scott Miller is a physical therapist and a Board Certified Sports Clinical Specialist.  A native to the area, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1994 and a Master of Science in 1998 from Grand Valley State University.  Scott is also a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist, and a Certified Golf fitness Instructor through the Titleist Performance Institute.  Scott is the Director of Clinical Operations of Agility Physical Therapy & Sports Performance and business partner in both of the physical therapy clinics in the greater Kalamazoo Area.

Scott has been published in several orthopaedic text books and lectures at the local, regional and national levels on various topics in physical therapy.  He has continued to pursue advanced education and training in foot & ankle biomechanics, manual therapy and the McKenzie method for evaluation and treatment of spinal disorders. 

Scott is an active member in the American Physical Therapy Association, Sports Physical Therapy Section, and a former Board of Trustee member and secretary for the Institute of Education and Research of the Michigan Physical Therapy Association.   He currently is a Team Member on the Public Relations Committee and a member of the Knee, Shoulder and Running Special Interest Groups (SIG) of the Sports Physical Therapy Section.  Scott is part of the teaching faculty for Advances in Clinical Education and the North American Sports Medicine Institute. In 2014, Scott was accepted as an Affiliate Member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), a world leader in sports medicine education, research, communication and fellowship. AOSSM is an international organization of orthopaedic surgeons and other allied health care professionals dedicated to sports medicine.

Scott was the recipient of the New Horizon Award given by the Sports Physical Therapy Section in 2006 and the Distinguished Physical Therapy Alumni Award by Grand Valley State University in 2015. Scott is an avid golfer, runner, cyclist and triathlete at various distances, including marathon and 2009 Ironman Florida finisher.  He is also the co-founder of the Golf Performance Academy of Southwest Michigan.

 

Christina Woytal

Christina Woytal is a physical therapist and joined the staff at Agility Physical Therapy & Sports Performance in November 2010.  She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Central Michigan University in 1996.  Christina went on to complete her graduate studies at Central Michigan in 1999.  She graduated from the University of Kansas in April 2011 with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy.  She is also a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA. 

Christina has spent her entire career specializing in outpatient orthopedics and sports, specializing in post-operative care and manual therapy.  She has advanced training in ankle and foot biomechanics and utilizes orthotic management for various lower extremity over-use injuries.

Christina is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association, Michigan Physical Therapy Association, and the Western District.  She has been a clinical instructor for a number of physical therapy students during her career.

 

Josh Hanenburg

Josh Hanenburg PT, DPT is a physical therapist who joined the staff at Agility Physical Therapy & Sports Performance in January 2016. Prior to joining Agility he severed as the Clinic Director at GRsportsCenter in Grand Rapids, MI. Josh is a Grand Rapids native and graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Grand Valley State University in 2005. He went on to complete his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in 2009.

Josh has a passion for movement and has enjoyed working with orthopedic and sports related injuries since becoming a physical therapist. He has advanced training in foot and ankle mechanics including video analysis for runners. He has completed education on the McKenzie method for evaluation and treatment of the spine, ASTYM® soft tissue treatment and golf assessment through the Titleist performance institute.

When he’s not in the clinic, you can find Josh out on the road or trails running and biking, on the golf course, or in the gym. Josh is an avid runner and triathlete having completed various distances including Ironman Wisconsin in 2013. He has been an active participant and worked with several cross-fit athletes on mechanics and stability during movement. Josh is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association, Sports Physical Therapy Section and Michigan Physical Therapy Association.

 

Adam Swain

Adam Swain is a physical therapist and joined the staff at Agility Physical Therapy & Sports Performance in February 2010.  He is a National Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist through the American Physical Therapy Association and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists. Adam became a McKenzie Certified Therapist in January 2012.

Adam graduated in 1986 from Northeastern University, in Boston, MA, with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy.  He became a Certified Athletic Trainer in 1992, after completing course work and internship hours at Northwestern University and Purdue University.  Adam also received his certification as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist in 1992.  In 1994, he completed a two year Manual Therapy and Medical Exercise Therapy Residency program with Bjorn Svendsen Dsc,PT. in Lansing MI.

Adam has lectured on several topics in orthopedic and sports medicine rehabilitation, and has been published as well.  He is currently working on certification in the McKenzie method for treatment of spinal and extremity disorders.  Adam has extensive training in manual therapy and Osteopathic techniques for management of spine and extremity dysfunctions.  He also specializes in ankle/foot biomechanics and was a member of the teaching faculty for the “When the Feet Hit the Ground…” course through the American Physical Rehabilitation Network (APRN).

He is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association, Orthopedic and Sports Sections, and the Michigan Physical Therapy Association.  He is also a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association.

 

Rachel Patterson Rachel Patterson, PT, DPT
Staff Physical Therapist
Doctorate of Physical Therapy

Rachel is a physical therapist and joined Agility Physical Therapy & Sports Performance in September 2014. She graduated from Grand Valley State University in 2014 with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy and graduated in 2011 from Miami University (Ohio) with a Bachelor in Exercise Science.

Prior to joining the team, Rachel completed her final clinical rotation at Agility before graduating from Grand Valley. During her clinical experience she focused on increasing her skills in manual therapy for various spinal and extremity conditions as well as biomechanical analysis for the walker/runner. 

Rachel is an accomplished distance runner and competed for the Miami University and Grand Valley State University. While at GVSU, she was a three-time NCAA DII National Champion in Track & Field and set two NCAA Division II Track & Field Championships meet records.  Rachel continues to compete at a high level in local running events.

 

Rachel Small

Rachel is a physical therapist and joined the staff at Agility Physical Therapy & Sports Performance in April 2015.  She graduated in 2012 from the Central Michigan University with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. 

Rachel decided to pursue a career in physical therapy while rehabbing from an ACL reconstruction following a soccer injury as a senior in high school. During her training, her final clinical affiliation was at Memorial Hermann Ironman Sports Medicine Institute in Houston, Texas where she had the opportunity to work with athletes of levels from weekend warriors to professional football and baseball players. Prior to starting at Agility Physical Therapy, Rachel worked in the Metro-Detroit area, primarily in out-patient orthopedics.  She was a lead physical therapist and worked with the lifespan of patients, from pediatrics to geriatrics.

Rachel is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association, Michigan Physical Therapy Association, Orthopedic Physical Therapy Section, and Sports Physical Therapy Section.  She continues to play recreational soccer.

 

Brittany Morton
Brittany Morton, PT, DPT

Doctorate of Physical Therapy

Brittany Morton joined Agility Health Physical Therapy & Sports Performance in February 2016. She received a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine in 2008 and has focused her work in outpatient orthopedics and neurological conditions. She also specializes in performing arts and vestibular physical therapy. As a vestibular clinician, she sees common diagnoses of vertigo, BPPV and post-concussion.

Brittany has worked extensively with professional dance companies including Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Thodos Dance Chicago and DanceWorks Chicago. She provided on-site and in-clinic care for dancers, both in management of in season condition and rehabilitation. She has additional training through the Harkness Institute for Dance Medicine in New York and manual training including Maitland, Mulligan and IASTM (Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization).

Brittany currently works primarily at the Agility clinic in Mattawan. Outside of work, she enjoys hiking with her husband and spending time with their daughter and two dogs. She leads the Dance Medicine Program at Agility with Teri Proper.

 

Teri Proper
Teri Proper, PTA, BS
Physical Therapist Assistant

Teri is a physical therapist assistant and joined the staff at Agility Physical Therapy & Sports Performance in November 2007.  A native to Waterford, Michigan, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science 2001 from Western Michigan University.  After graduation, she worked for a local physical therapy clinic and started a Wellness Program, as well as worked as a personal fitness trainer at West Hills Athletic Club.  Teri went on to graduate from Kellogg Community College’s Physical Therapist Assistant Program in 2004.

Teri has pursued advanced training in extremity and spinal techniques through Great Lakes Seminars, as well as training in Pilates techniques.  In 2009 and 2015, Teri was named Outstanding Clinical Instructor from Kellogg Community College for her recognition and dedication to working with PTA students.  In 2010, she was also recognized by the American Physical Therapy Association for having Advanced Proficiency in Musculoskeletal Conditions.  Teri has also lectured on injury prevention to local runners and triathletes and has a published article in PT Magazine.

Teri is an avid runner and triathlete competing in several half marathon distance events.

 

Jeffrey Ballentine Jeffrey Ballentine, PTA

Jeff Ballentine is a physical therapist assistant and joined the staff at Agility Physical Therapy & Sports Performance in January 2014. He graduated from Kellogg Community College in 1996 with an Associates in Allied Health in the Physical Therapy Assistant program.

Prior to starting at Agility Physical Therapy, he has practiced in outpatient orthopedics for over 17 years at HealthTRAC in Three Rivers, Michigan. Jeff has continued to pursue advanced education in manual therapy through Great Lakes Seminars, myofascial release and became certified as a Kettlebell Instructor in 2013.

Jeff, a native of Portage, is active in the Cross Fit community, as well as weight training. He also had a thriving massage therapy business.

Karley Howard is a Physical Therapist Assistant and joined the staff at Agility Physical Therapy & Sports Performance in July 2015. She is a graduate of Baker College of Owosso in 2008 with a license in Massage Therapy and went on to graduate from Kellogg Community College’s Physical Therapist Assistant program in 2013.  Karley works at both the Kalamazoo and Portage offices currently.

Karley was born and raised in Battle Creek, MI and moved to Portage, MI when she married in 2014. Since graduating, Karley has become an active part of the running community and has participated in a half marathon run and several local 5Ks. From a young age, Karley has enjoyed playing basketball, volleyball, and softball and continues to enjoy competitive activities.

 

Shayna Phillips Shayna Phillips, PTA, CPO

Shayna Phillips is a Physical Therapist Assistant that joined Agility in September of 2015. A native of Jackson, MI and currently residing in Battle Creek, MI, she graduated from Kellogg Community College‘s Physical Therapist Assistant program in 2007. She is the head of our Aquatics program.

Since graduating, Shayna has gained clinical experience in both outpatient sports therapy and skilled nursing facilities with advanced training in Kinesio taping techniques as well as women’s health care through the Herman and Wallace coursework.

Shayna is an avid Detroit Red Wings and Indianapolis Colts fan. She has a love of elephants and is currently fostering an elephant through the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. When she is not working and saving animals, Shayna has her own photography business.

Natalie is a physical therapy tech at the Kalamazoo office and joined the staff at Agility Physical Therapy & Sports Performance in December of 2014.  She graduated in 2014 from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Science in Movement Science.

Natalie is a native of Portage and was a multi-sport athlete for Portage Northern High School in soccer, basketball, volleyball and cross-country.  She played on several intramural teams at the University of Michigan and continues to play at a high level on a recreation team.  

Natalie was the Vice-President of the Pre-Physical Therapy Club at U of M and is currently making application to pursue a career in physical therapy.

Katie is a physical therapy tech at the Portage office and joined the staff at Agility Physical Therapy & Sports Performance in May of 2015. In the spring of 2015, she graduated from Hope College with a Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology.

She has a special interest in neurologic physical therapy. Katie was a multi-sport athlete at Portage Central High School participating in volleyball, track & field and cross country throughout her high school and collegiate career. During her senior season at Hope, she competed in the 2014 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships and captained the track and field team as a four-time letter winner.

In her free time, Katie enjoys running, cycling, hiking, boating or any other outdoor activities. Katie is pursuing a career in either physical therapy or nursing.

Jess is a physical therapy tech at the Mattawan office and joined the staff at Agility Physical Therapy & Sports Performance in February of 2016. She will graduate in the spring of 2016 from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science.

Jess is a native of Kalamazoo and was a multi-sport athlete for Loy Norrix High School playing volleyball and soccer. She played intramural soccer at WMU. Jess is a member of the WMU Exercise Science Club and Delta Zeta (ΔZ) sorority and has held various leadership positions in the Greek community.

Jess is currently making application to pursue a career in physical therapy.

Eddie O’Connor, Ph.D. is the Founder and Clinical Sport Psychologist at the Performance Excellence Center at Mary Fee Bed Rehabilitation Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He did his doctoral work in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago.

Dr. O’Connor is a Fellow and Certified Consultant with the Association for the Advancement of Applied Sport Psychology. He is a professional member of the U.S. Olympic Committee Sport Psychology Registry and the American Psychological Association, Division of Sport & Exercise Psychology.

Dr. O’Connor is the performance excellence consultant for Agility Physical Therapy & Sports Performance.
